Liverpool dominates Premier League with 3-0 win over Bournemouth
Liverpool has surged to the top of the Premier League following a commanding 3-0 victory over Bournemouth. Meanwhile, Manchester United faced disappointment, settling for a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Nicolas Jackson netted two goals, leading Chelsea to a convincing 3-0 triumph at West Ham, while Aston Villa matched Liverpool on points after overcoming a deficit to beat Wolves 3-1.
After experiencing their first setback under new management with a loss to Nottingham Forest, Liverpool responded emphatically, overwhelming Bournemouth in the first half. Luis Diaz, who was rested for Liverpool’s recent Champions League opener, returned to the lineup and struck twice in a remarkable two-minute span.
Diaz capitalized on a mistake from the opposing goalkeeper, rounding Kepa Arrizabalaga after receiving a long ball and slotting it into an open net. He then received a well-timed assist from Trent Alexander-Arnold to score his fifth goal of the season. Darwin Núñez, making his first start of the season, ended his goal drought in spectacular fashion, curling the ball into the far corner.
This victory places Liverpool ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa, both of whom are also on 12 points, but Liverpool leads on goal difference.
Manchester United returned to Selhurst Park for the first time since a heavy defeat last season. Although they avoided another humiliating loss, Erik ten Hag’s side struggled to impress against a winless Palace, relying on a superb double save from André Onana to secure the draw.
Tottenham alleviated pressure on their manager, Ange Postecoglou, by defeating Brentford 3-1 in North London. After an early goal from Brentford, Spurs quickly rallied. Dominic Solanke opened his account for Tottenham, and Brennan Johnson later added to their score before James Maddison secured their victory with a late goal.
Aston Villa needed to rebound after Wolve’s initial goal, with Ollie Watkins equalizing, and Ezri Konsa putting Villa ahead before Jhon Duran added to the score with another goal.
Chelsea continued their strong start under their new manager, with Jackson’s brace dismantling a lackluster West Ham. The Senegalese striker showcased his talent with two composed finishes, and Jackson also assisted Cole Palmer for the final goal.
West Ham has now lost their first three home league games in a historic low for the club. Fulham triumphed over Newcastle 3-1, while newly-promoted sides Ipswich and Southampton shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Everton and Leicester continue to search for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw between the two.
Excitement builds for Sunday’s blockbuster match as champions Manchester City prepare to host Arsenal, who have been second to City in the previous two seasons.
