Delta Air Lines is set to enhance connectivity between Barbados and the United States with its expanded service for the Summer 2025 season.
The airline’s new service to Barbados will kick off on November 23, 2024. Following this, starting December 21 of this year, Delta will introduce a exclusive weekly flight from New York on Saturdays, alongside a daily service from Atlanta, Georgia.
Daily non-stop flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) will commence on May 7, 2025, and run through September 7, 2025.
According to the summer schedule, Flight DL1985 will leave ATL at 9:45 a.m., arriving in Barbados at 2:20 p.m. Meanwhile, Flight DL1984 will take off from BGI at 3:40 p.m., landing in Atlanta at 9:00 p.m.
The Minister of Tourism and International Transport expressed excitement over Delta’s expanded Summer 2025 service.
As network planning positions itself for 2025, this initiative stands as a strong endorsement of Barbados as a prime travel destination. The additional flight capacity is expected to enhance Barbados’ appeal and contribute to sustained growth throughout the summer season. Continued interest from the U.S. market is particularly encouraging.
The expanded service will introduce over 19,000 more seats, significantly improving travel options for passengers from key secondary markets within Delta’s network. This initiative reinforces the critical role of Barbados’ airlift strategy in driving its tourism sector.
The Minister underscored the necessity of reliable air travel access in attracting visitors, impacting travel decisions and overall experiences for tourists.
In recent years, Barbados has focused on developing a robust airlift strategy crucial for maintaining its competitive edge in the global tourism arena and increasing visitor numbers. Collaborative efforts between the Government and tourism stakeholders with airlines like Delta aim to enhance accessibility to the island, allowing visitors to experience Barbados’ beauty and culture.
In July 2024, Barbados tourism representatives engaged with senior Delta officials in Atlanta, including leading figures from the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI).
These discussions centered around enhancing airlift, utilizing data on travel demand and potential visitor increases. The dialogue showcased the mutual benefits of bolstering air services.
The commitment to expand capacity stems from these strategic interactions, highlighting the importance of collaboration between government and private sector entities in enriching Barbados’ tourism profile.
The extended service aligns with the upcoming We Gatherin’ campaign, tapping into the substantial Barbadian community in Georgia and neighboring regions to strengthen community ties. This campaign aims to foster unity among Barbadians both at home and abroad, encouraging reconnection with their heritage and contributing positively to the local economy.
Delta is gearing up for its largest summer schedule yet, offering 968 daily flights, 1.1 million weekly seats, and service to 215 destinations from Atlanta. This growth solidifies its position as the world’s largest airline hub, adding approximately 75 daily departures compared to summer 2024.
