A day after a decomposed body of a woman was discovered inside a bed box in an east Delhi apartment, police have apprehended the landlord and an associate of the victim’s husband. The husband, however, remains untraceable.
The primary suspect, the landlord Vivekanand Mishra, was taken into custody on Friday and formally arrested on Saturday. During questioning, Mishra confessed to the crime and implicated two others: Abhay Kumar, an aide to the husband, and the husband himself, who is still on the run.
Authorities indicated that both Kumar and Mishra are attempting to mislead the investigation, with the true motive for the murder expected to be unveiled only after the husband is captured.
Police responded to a call on Friday from Vivek Vihar reporting a foul odor emanating from a DDA flat. Upon arrival, they found the apartment locked from the outside and discovered bloodstains near the rear door. After gaining entry, officers located the decomposed body of the 35-year-old victim, Anjali, inside a bag, wrapped in a blanket within the bed box.
Later on Friday, officers located the 65-year-old landlord near Surajmal Park in Anand Vihar and took him into custody. Investigations revealed that Anjali had caught her husband in a compromising situation with the two accused in their Delhi flat. Following this discovery, Anjali left for her parents’ home in Ludhiana, Punjab.
On March 21, her husband, Ashish, brought her back to Delhi. Just two days later, he, along with his aide and the landlord, allegedly murdered her, concealed her body, and fled to Jaipur. While the landlord eventually returned to Delhi, both Kumar and Ashish escaped to Bihar. Their plans to dispose of the body were thwarted when police received a call on March 28 about the persistent foul smell.
