Deerhoof Celebrates 30 Years with New Album and Innovative Promotion
Innovative experimental rock band Deerhoof is set to release their 20th studio album, Noble and Godlike in Ruin, on April 25. Coinciding with the announcement of their upcoming tour, the band recently unveiled a new single titled “Immigrant Songs,” using an unconventional venue for its premiere—Craigslist. This unique strategy not only showcases their latest work but also highlights a platform that stands apart in today’s digital landscape.
Drummer Greg Saunier shared insights into the new track, explaining that it serves as a sequel to “Exit Only,” which addressed the struggles of immigration. “It’s disheartening to witness the immigration discussion twisted into narratives that ignore the real issues. The history of immigration in America reveals that the so-called ‘migrant horde’ was primarily European. Today, countless racialized and underpaid immigrants contribute significantly to our workforce while facing rampant dehumanization and deportation,” noted Saunier. “These individuals are the backbone of our society, teaching us resilience and survival amidst adversity.”
Noble and Godlike in Ruin features 10 tracks, including previously released singles “Overrated Species Anyhow” and “Sparrow Sparrow,” which were part of a limited-edition benefit single to support the Trevor Project. The album follows their 2023 release, Miracle-Level, and includes a collaboration with Saul Williams on the track “Under Rats.”
To support the new album, Deerhoof will embark on a North American tour starting May 1 in Minneapolis, running through late June. Following this leg, they will take their tour to Europe, culminating in a performance in Faaborg, Denmark, on August 8. A complete list of tour dates will be made available.
