It has officially been confirmed: the highly anticipated film “Deadpool & Wolverine” has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office. Following another impressive weekend in theaters, the Marvel sensation, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has amassed a staggering $1.029 billion worldwide. This total includes approximately $494.3 million from North America and $535.1 million from international sales.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” becomes the second film of 2024 to reach the billion-dollar milestone, following the success of Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” which is also part of the Disney family.
As it stands, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is poised to overtake 2019’s “Joker,” which earned $1.07 billion, to set a new record as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
It is noteworthy that “Deadpool & Wolverine” marks the 11th Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film to cross the $1 billion threshold, and the 31st film produced by Disney to achieve this remarkable feat.
In related news, it has come to light that “Deadpool & Wolverine” initially had plans to feature Robert Downey Jr. and other members of The Avengers, although those concepts were ultimately abandoned.
In contrast, the recently released “Borderlands” film has struggled at the box office and is on track to become one of 2024’s biggest disappointments.
