In a recent statement, renowned filmmaker David Lynch addressed his health challenges, revealing a diagnosis of emphysema stemming from years of smoking. Due to his condition, Lynch has taken measures to remain homebound to safeguard against colds, COVID-19, and other illnesses. Though he mentioned the possibility of directing films “remotely,” he expressed reluctance to adopt this approach.
“I have emphysema from my many years of smoking,” Lynch stated. He reflected on his past enjoyment of smoking, saying, “I love tobacco – the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them – but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment. I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently, I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern.”
Despite being homebound, Lynch has continued to showcase his creativity. During the pandemic, he launched a popular video series and shared daily weather updates. He has also produced a series of short films and collaborated on a new album. Lynch’s dedication to his craft remains unwavering, with his last feature film, “Inland Empire,” released in 2006.
As Lynch continues to navigate his health journey, fans can expect him to remain an influential force in the creative world.
