Former Member of Parliament D.K. Suresh addressed the recent arrest of former Minister Muniratna, who faces charges of caste abuse and criminal intimidation, urging the Opposition not to politicize the situation. Speaking in Bengaluru on September 15, 2024, Suresh strongly refuted claims that the arrest stemmed from hate politics.
“No one encouraged Mr. Muniratna to use abusive language or seek commission. We cannot tolerate the disrespectful language directed at women or statements that incite violence among castes,” he emphasized.
Suresh criticized Opposition leaders for attempting to politicize the incident, stating, “Though this situation is quite clear, some are trying to color it politically.”
In response to Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok’s allegations of political revenge concerning the arrest, Suresh questioned the connection between politics and hate, clarifying, “No one instructed him to act inappropriately. We became aware of the incident only after a complaint was lodged. The police have arrested Mr. Muniratna, and further details will emerge as the investigation proceeds.”
When asked about Muniratna’s statement implicating Suresh in his arrest, the former MP distanced himself from the matter, asserting, “I am not involved in this issue. I have respected the people’s decision and focus on helping those in need. I prefer to stay away from political machinations.”
The unfolding events continue to highlight the tensions between political alliances and issues of social justice.
