The Nigeria Customs Service has reported impressive revenue growth in the Kano/Jigawa Command, generating N102.5 billion in 2024. According to Comptroller Dauda Chana, this represents a remarkable 94 percent increase compared to the previous year, credited to the command’s strategic revenue collection initiatives.
In its ongoing anti-smuggling efforts, the command seized contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value of N235,290,320. Notable items confiscated include 136 bags of foreign rice, 238 cartons of pasta, 534 cartons of creamer milk, and 210 kilograms of kola nuts. Additional seizures comprised 552 bales of second-hand clothing, 371 parcels of cannabis, 74,870 tablets of tramadol, 1,290 expired or counterfeit pharmaceutical products, and 4,410 kilograms of Pangolin scales.
Comptroller Chana emphasized the command’s collaborative approach, working alongside security agencies, terminal operators, licensed agents, and market associations to enhance compliance and fulfill its mandate. He stated, “Well-trained armed personnel are deployed to strategic locations to effectively combat illegal smuggling in our jurisdiction.”
Highlighting the importance of community engagement, Chana urged local leaders and stakeholders to educate border communities about the detrimental impacts of smuggling on the nation’s economy. “We are also engaging with the youth in these areas to support our field officers in gathering intelligence critical to curbing all forms of smuggling,” he added.
