ECNETNews reports that the Department of Marine Biology, Microbiology and Biochemistry at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) is set to host a national conference on ‘Marine Pollution and Ecotoxicology’ from September 25 to 27. The event seeks to tackle pressing challenges affecting marine and coastal ecosystems while fostering collaboration among experts.
The conference, organized in partnership with the National Centre for Coastal Research, Ministry of Earth Sciences, and CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (IITR), will be inaugurated by the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying on September 25 at the seminar complex located on the main campus.
Anticipating participation from around 400 delegates representing over 30 institutions both nationally and internationally, the conference aims to develop actionable policy frameworks that address critical environmental issues. Key themes for discussion will include legacy and emerging contaminants, environmental toxicology, climate change impacts, health risk assessment, seafood safety, and advancements in sustainable aquaculture technologies.
Additionally, a marine science exhibition will take place at the venue, featuring showcases from various institutes such as the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, and the Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training. These presentations will highlight their latest activities, technological innovations, and products relevant to marine science.
