HAVANA, Cuba – The Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power is set to convene from December 16-20, 2024, focusing on pressing social and economic issues vital to the nation.
During this session, lawmakers will engage in a plenary meeting following the work of permanent commissions to review previous agreements and evaluate the country’s economic plan for the current year.
Additionally, the assembly will deliberate on the 2025 budget bill, as outlined by parliament secretary Homero Acosta. The agenda will also feature discussions on the implementation of policies focused on comprehensive care for children, adolescents, and youth, including a draft code concerning Childhood, Adolescence, and Youth.
Among the proposed legislation is a new framework for notarial services, which will be aligned under the Ministry of Justice to enhance service efficiency for the population.
Since the adoption of the Cuban Constitution in 2019, the parliament has passed 50 legislations and 113 decree laws. The current assembly comprises 470 lawmakers, with a noteworthy 55 percent representation of women.
In related developments, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez emphasized the significance of scientific innovation in government initiatives during his recent visit to Holguin province. He commended the University of Holguin for its impactful contributions to local development through various projects.
President Díaz-Canel highlighted the university’s involvement in approximately 60 projects tied to the Governance Management System grounded in Science and Innovation. He noted the essential role of the Party as a cornerstone of Cuban society and the importance of the Young Communist League in cultivating future Party members for the nation’s progression.
His tour also included a visit to a mechanical assembly plant where 12 tractors from Belarus are being constructed, supported by experts from the country, as well as a visit to a Credits and Services Cooperative engaged in agricultural and livestock production.
