HOLGUIN, Cuba – Tauba Holmotor S.U.R.L., a state-owned micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) located in the eastern province of Holguin, is set to revolutionize transportation in Cuba by producing engines for electric tricycles for the first time. This initiative aims to strengthen connections with other national industries and enhance passenger transportation options in urban areas.
Electric Tricycles Powered by Chinese Technology
This innovative project is built on an already approved prototype, which will enable local assembly of electric tricycles. According to specialists, components necessary for production are readily available at the factory in Cacocum. These electric tricycles will be showcased at national and international exhibitions, including the Renewable Energies Fair and the Havana International Fair, taking place in September and November, respectively.
“The engine meets established power and quality standards and supports import substitution efforts, maximizes the use of installed capacity, and promotes recycling of materials such as aluminum,” stated a company representative.
Additionally, the enterprise incorporates Chinese technology into its operations, aligning with food sovereignty programs and addressing climate change by manufacturing pumping equipment for irrigation systems, thus bolstering food production in challenging areas.
Holguin region boasts over 400 MSMEs, with Tauba Holmotor being the only state-owned entity focused on production and social initiatives, including empowering women and supporting youth.
Cuba-Russia Collaborate on Construction Initiatives
In related developments, discussions between Cuba and Russia are underway regarding collaboration in the construction sector. Nikita Stasishin, Deputy Minister of Construction from Russia, highlighted the potential for Cuban enterprises to modernize with Russian assistance.
During the IX Eastern Economic Forum, Stasishin noted that Cuba could supply marble and finishing materials to Russia, emphasizing the interest from Cuban construction authorities in accessing the Russian market. These topics will be further explored during the International Construction Championship set to take place in Moscow this October.
