A civil society group in Osun State, ECNETNews reports, has called on the state government to ensure that the recruitment process for the Amotekun Corps and Imole Youth Corps remains unbiased and free from political influence.
The Executive Director of the group emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency in the recruitment to avoid undermining job creation efforts for the youth. During a recent media briefing in Osogbo, he praised the government’s initiative for large-scale youth employment but stressed that fairness is crucial.
He stated, “Past recruitment processes have been marred by political interference, which can disrupt the government’s good intentions. The Osun State Government must guarantee that the recruitment for both organizations is equitable.”
The group raised concerns about reports indicating a disproportionate number of successful candidates for the Imole Youth Corps being affiliated with one political party. The director asserted that all Osun indigenes should have equal access to government opportunities without discrimination based on politics, ethnicity, or religion.
Moreover, he expressed apprehension over a potential tariff increase by telecommunications providers, arguing that such hikes are inappropriate during a period of economic difficulty for Nigerians.
In response, the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment refuted the claims of political favoritism in the recruitment process, asserting that the government is committed to inclusivity. He confirmed that individuals from all political backgrounds, including APC and PDP members, are welcome to apply for positions in the Amotekun Corps and Imole Youth Corps, provided they meet the necessary qualifications.
