The Inspector General of Police has reported a notable decrease in crime rates nationwide, attributing this positive trend to the police force’s effective strategies. In the past month, significant crimes have dropped to 416 incidents, a reduction from 734 in May and 530 in June.
During a recent meeting with Commissioners of Police in Abuja, the Inspector General expressed gratitude for the commitment and passion shown by police personnel in achieving these results. He stated, “It is gratifying to note that the strategies deployed and executed by our officers have yielded significant results, enhancing the internal security stability of our nation.”
An analysis of the monthly crime statistics showed a promising outlook, with the major crimes reported declining in the last month. In the fight against criminal activities, the police made substantial strides, resulting in the arrest of 1,284 individuals across the country.
Additionally, the police recovered 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, 107 vehicles, and rescued 97 victims of kidnapping last month.
The Inspector General also highlighted actions taken by the special task force on petroleum, announcing recent arrests and the recovery of stolen goods. He emphasized the need for reorganization to improve their operations further, aiming to combat the persistent issue of oil theft in Nigeria. “Recent interceptions of suspected stolen goods and the arrest of those involved demonstrate our commitment to this fight,” he noted, emphasizing that many cases are currently undergoing court proceedings, while others are still under investigation.
The achievements reported stem from strong collaboration with the public and other security agencies, showcasing the dedication and professionalism within the police force.
