Dehring, a prominent Jamaican entrepreneur and media innovator, is set to begin his tenure on February 1, 2025.
This strategic decision follows an extensive global recruitment process that attracted more than 50 candidates from regions including Europe, Australia, Afghanistan, India, and the Caribbean. CWI President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, commended Dehring as “the best of the best,” citing his rich history of achievements in business, media, and cricket administration.
“Chris Dehring exemplifies innovation and strategy—qualities that are essential as we strive to reestablish our prominence in world cricket,” Dr. Shallow remarked. “His return signals the start of an exhilarating new era in West Indies cricket.”
Dehring is celebrated for founding SportsMax, the Caribbean’s pioneering sports television channel, transforming the media landscape by broadcasting major global events such as the FIFA World Cup and NBA games. He also co-established Jamaica’s first investment bank, which achieved notable success before being acquired by a major banking institution.
His entrepreneurial initiatives include the launch of ReadyTV, Jamaica’s first digital broadcast service, and ReadyNET, the nation’s inaugural satellite internet provider.
Dehring’s notable contributions to the sport include his role as Managing Director and CEO of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, where he effectively managed one of the Caribbean’s most challenging multi-national sporting events.
In expressing his excitement for this new chapter in leadership, Dehring stated: “West Indies cricket has always been close to my heart. It serves as a unifying force and a source of pride for our region. I am honored to return to such a significant organization, and I am dedicated to driving innovation, nurturing talent, and reigniting the fervor for West Indies cricket on both local and international stages.”
Dehring’s leadership is anticipated to be crucial in revitalizing West Indies cricket, a sport that is intricately linked to the cultural identity of the region.
