Cooking in Stardew Valley offers numerous benefits, including the ability to regain significant health and energy. Preparing favorite meals is also an excellent way to enhance relationships with villagers. However, unlocking cooking requires some upgrades, and acquiring new recipes can be more challenging than anticipated.
How to Cook in Stardew Valley
To begin cooking, players must have a kitchen in their house. This can be achieved by purchasing the first house upgrade from the Carpenter’s shop, which costs 10,000G and requires 450 wood. The upgrade process takes three in-game days and adds a kitchen to your home.
After the upgrade is complete, players can cook by interacting with the stovetop in their kitchen. Simply gather the necessary ingredients and select the dish from the cooking menu—the dish will only be highlighted if you have all required components, and there’s no minigame involved.
How to Learn New Recipes
There are three main methods to learn new cooking recipes:
-
The Queen of Sauce TV Show: This program airs every Sunday, introducing new recipes. Wednesday reruns prioritize recipes that players may have missed.
-
Building Relationships with Villagers: Increasing friendship levels with villagers can lead to recipes being sent through the mail at specific heart thresholds.
- Purchasing Recipes: Certain recipes can be bought in town.
Note: Players cannot cook a meal without first learning the corresponding recipe.
