A formal complaint has been lodged with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) following the tragic death of a 56-year-old woman in Kukatpally last week. The complaint was initiated by a local advocate in response to ongoing demolitions in the city, linking the incident to the actions of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).
The advocate alleges that these demolitions have had severe repercussions on the community, leading to emotional distress and, ultimately, the unfortunate incident. The complainant has urged the NHRC to conduct a thorough investigation into the suicide and to hold HYDRAA Commissioner accountable for the events leading up to it.
Request for High-Level Committee
In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice, the advocate has proposed the formation of a high-level technical committee as outlined in the Telangana Surveys and Boundaries Act of 1923. This committee, composed of experts in technical and legal fields, is aimed at addressing grievances from those impacted by demolitions prior to commencement of any further processes.
This appeal, submitted on September 27, is being considered as a Public Interest Litigation.
