Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, a notorious founding member of the Sinaloa Cartel, has been officially registered at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Brooklyn following his initial court appearance in New York, where he pleaded “not guilty.”
Zambada is incarcerated in the same facility as Genaro García Luna, the former Secretary of Security in Mexico. In the Bureau of Prisons system, Zambada is identified by the number 27102-511.
On Friday, Zambada appeared in Federal Court for the Eastern District of New York to face 17 charges, including organized crime, drug trafficking, and money laundering.
His attorney, Frank Pérez, stated that there are no plans for negotiation or cooperation; the current strategy is to take the case to trial.
The Department of Justice has confirmed that “Zambada García has been ordered detained pending trial.” Furthermore, it was reported that “Zambada García was transferred [on Thursday] from the Western District of Texas to the Eastern District of New York following his arrest in New Mexico on July 25.”
Zambada’s next hearing is scheduled for Thursday, October 31.
