Actor Edavela Babu Interrogated by Special Investigation Team Amid Complaints
In a significant development, actor Edavela Babu, who previously served as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), is under investigation by a special team probing allegations against various personalities in the Malayalam film industry following the K. Hema Committee report.
Babu appeared for questioning at the Coastal Police headquarters in Kochi on the morning of September 25, 2024. The interrogation was conducted by a team led by Coastal AIG G. Poonkuzhali. He faces serious allegations, including rape, based on a complaint filed by a fellow actress.
The complaint details an incident that allegedly occurred at Babu’s residence in Kaloor, where the complainant had visited to complete AMMA membership paperwork. It’s noteworthy that Babu has previously been granted anticipatory bail in this case.
Notably, the SIT recently recorded the arrest of actor-legislator M. Mukesh on similar allegations. After a three-hour questioning session, he was released after also securing anticipatory bail.
This investigation marks a crucial point in addressing longstanding grievances within the film industry, and the developments will be closely monitored by both the public and media.
