Coahuila Reports Alarming Rise in Calls for Help from Women Facing Abuse
According to a recent gender perspective report, Coahuila is one of the states with the highest number of security calls from women reporting abuse and harassment. In the first two months of 2025, emergency services received 103 distress calls from women in Coahuila pertaining to sexual harassment and stalking.
This figure marks a significant increase, more than doubling the average monthly calls recorded five years ago, which stood at 46 cases in 2020.
Coahuila ranks seventh in the nation for reported cases of sexual harassment against women, indicating both a concerning absolute number and a troubling incidence rate. Currently, the state has a rate of 3.03 incidents per 100,000 women, trailing behind only a few states with even higher reported cases, including Colima, Baja California, and Chihuahua.
This statistic reveals that Coahuila experiences more than double the national average rate of 1.48 cases per 100,000 women. Additionally, the state has recorded significant numbers in the realm of sexual abuse, with 80 reported incidents in the same timeframe.
Overall, Coahuila holds the fifth rank in absolute terms for cases of sexual abuse, as well as in incidence rate, surpassing the national average of 0.94 incidents per 100,000 women. Specifically, the report highlights that Coahuila has a rate of 2.35 women reporting sexual abuse for every 100,000 women, positioning it just below other states like Baja California and Sonora.
