Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has hailed Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi as a distinguished legal expert and constitutional authority, emphasizing his commitment to securing the state’s rights under the A.P. Reorganisation Act, which have remained unaddressed for the past decade.
During a recent Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, Chief Minister Reddy introduced Mr. Singhvi to the legislators and expressed gratitude to the party leadership for selecting him as the nominee for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Telangana. He described Mr. Singhvi as a vital advocate for Telangana’s interests both in Parliament and in the Supreme Court.
Mr. Singhvi is poised to fill the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by K. Keshava Rao, who resigned after transitioning from the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) to the Congress party. The Chief Minister recognized Mr. Keshava Rao’s dedication and sacrifices for Telangana, referring to him as a disciplined supporter of the Congress.
Prior to submitting his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat, Mr. Singhvi met with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and other Cabinet Ministers. His candidacy appears to be uncontested as the BRS is likely to refrain from contesting due to insufficient numbers, making the CLP meeting a mere formality.
Mr. Singhvi is considered a formidable asset to the Congress party, having previously lost a Rajya Sabha election in Himachal Pradesh due to rebel MLAs voting for a BJP candidate. The party leadership was eager to reestablish his position in the Rajya Sabha, making the arrival of Mr. Keshava Rao a fortuitous development.
Following his resignation, Mr. Keshava Rao was appointed as an advisor to the Telangana government. Mr. Singhvi is a member of the Congress Working Committee and has served three terms in the Upper House of Parliament.
