China has officially declared its intention to reject US-led initiatives for the development of encryption algorithms that provide protection against quantum computing threats. Instead, the nation aims to establish its own encryption standards. This decision raises concerns that China may be wary of using US-developed algorithms due to the possibility of hidden “back doors” that could provide access to US intelligence agencies. Alternatively, it suggests a strategy to create its own algorithms which may also contain back doors.
As advancements in quantum computing progress, the encryption protocols in use today may soon become obsolete. The urgency for robust, quantum-resistant encryption methods has never been greater.
