In a tragic incident following the air show organized by the Indian Air Force (IAF) at Marina Beach in Chennai, five individuals have reportedly died from suspected heat-related exhaustion. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his condolences on October 7, 2024, and announced a financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the families of each victim.
“It deeply saddens me to learn that five valuable lives were lost due to extreme heat and medical issues. This is an immense loss for their families. I extend my heartfelt condolences to them and have ordered a solatium of ₹5 lakh for each bereaved family,” stated Chief Minister Stalin.
Mr. Stalin highlighted that the Tamil Nadu government had gone to great lengths to ensure thorough arrangements at the air show, which took place on IAF’s request. Departments including Police, Fire and Rescue Services, Greater Chennai Corporation, and the Health department collaborated to manage the event effectively.
“While we successfully prevented stampedes, I acknowledge that the turnout exceeded expectations, causing difficulties for attendees in returning to their vehicles and accessing public transport. We will take greater care to address these issues for future events of this magnitude,” he emphasized.
