Caverton Marine Limited, a prominent provider of marine logistics services in Nigeria, has announced a strategic partnership with ExploMar (Suzhou) Energy Technology Co. Ltd. of China. This collaboration represents a significant advancement toward sustainable transportation in Nigeria, as Caverton Marine integrates electric outboard engines from ExploMar into its newly launched passenger ferries, known as OMIBUS.
The OMIBUS ferries, constructed by Caverton Marine in Lagos, were recently commissioned by the Lagos State government, poised to transform water transportation in the area. By incorporating ExploMar’s cutting-edge electric outboard systems, Caverton Marine enhances the operational efficiency of its fleet while actively contributing to lower carbon emissions and minimizing environmental impact.
In conjunction with the Lagos State government, Caverton Marine successfully initiated a pilot program for the OMIBUS on July 29th, aimed at evaluating operating expenses. A key insight from this pilot program revealed the significant impact of the removal of fuel subsidies on operations and ticket prices, highlighting the necessity for exploring more affordable and eco-friendly propulsion alternatives for the ferries.
This partnership between Caverton Marine and ExploMar emphasizes a commitment to sustainable innovation. The integration of ExploMar’s electric outboard engines is expected to notably reduce the environmental footprint of the ferries, thereby promoting cleaner waterways and improved air quality in Lagos. Designed for high performance and reliability, ExploMar’s electric systems promise to enhance the operational efficiency of the ferries, providing quieter and more cost-effective alternatives to conventional fossil fuel engines.
Bode Makanjuola, CEO of Caverton Offshore Support Group, remarked, “This agreement with ExploMar is a major milestone in our journey toward sustainable maritime operations. By leveraging ExploMar’s innovative technology, we are establishing new standards for passenger ferry services in Nigeria and reinforcing our commitment to a greener future. This initiative not only aligns with environmental objectives but also enhances local industry capabilities.”
