The Federal Government is set to launch a massive cattle ranch in Niger State, collaborating with JBJ Brazil, the world’s leading cattle rancher. This initiative was revealed by the Minister of Livestock Development during a recent meeting with Niger State Governor Umaru Bago.
The project is part of a strategic partnership aimed at boosting livestock production across Nigeria. Niger State was chosen for its rich resources, particularly its abundant water supply, and the commitment of the state government to allocate 1.2 million hectares of land for this $2.5 billion livestock investment.
The proposed ranch is expected to cover 100,000 hectares and accommodate 100,000 bulls. Ongoing discussions are being held to finalize financial arrangements with the investors.
Governor Bago, through his deputy, Yakubu Garba, expressed optimism about the project’s success, citing Niger’s unique advantages. Additionally, the Chairman of Niger Foods confirmed that Brazilian firms JBS and JBJ are investing in animal production and processing, with the Federal Government facilitating this significant agricultural project.
