ECNETNews, New York, NY, August 29, 2024: “I survived 9/11 not once, but twice. First by being fired from my job, and second by recovering after falling ill at the site of that job,” reflects Caribbean immigrant and Jamaican-born consultant, Oral Patrick. He shares his remarkable journey in his book Restorative Healing Begins With Rest: Overcoming Breathing Difficulties and PTSD After 9/11 Exposure.
Co-authored with his daughter, the book details his escape from death, subsequent health struggles, and eventual recovery journey.
Patrick, who narrowly avoided being at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, reveals that he was laid off from his position at Lava Trading Inc., located on the 83rd floor of One World Trade Center, just one day before the attacks. His survival story changed dramatically when he volunteered at Ground Zero, which led to severe health issues. His recovery emphasized the restorative power of rest, principles he lays out in his book.
Born in Old Harbour, Jamaica, Patrick was raised in a large family and pursued education at The University of the West Indies, earning a degree in Physics and Mathematics. His journey to the U.S. with his family symbolized their pursuit of the American dream, overcoming numerous obstacles along the way.
In Restorative Healing Begins With Rest, Patrick addresses the months of illness resulting from environmental exposure at Ground Zero and underscores the importance of rest in healing. He provides practical strategies for self-healing by minimizing external stressors, akin to rebooting a computer after shutting it down.
After the attacks, Patrick founded Patrick Internet Computer Systems, transitioned into pastoral work, and initiated a real estate company to address post-9/11 housing demands. He now actively spreads his healing message, encouraging others to view rest as a vital aspect of recovery and overall wellness.
His inspiring book is currently available through major retailers, with additional information accessible on his dedicated website.
