ECNETNews, New York, NY, August 2, 2024: Maurice DuBois, a prominent figure in broadcast journalism and the son of Caribbean immigrants, has been appointed as the new co-anchor of ‘CBS Evening News.’ This seasoned anchorman, previously with WCBS-TV in New York City, will succeed Norah O’Donnell and share anchoring duties with John Dickerson, the lead political analyst for CBS.
Maurice DuBois was born in Long Island, New York, to parents from Dominica. He attended Port Jefferson High School and later received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. During his college years, he interned at the Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Public Affairs Office, where he contributed to their employee newspaper, the Brookhaven Bulletin.
DuBois’s journalism career began in 1987 as a desk assistant at KING-TV in Seattle. He later worked as an anchor and reporter at WFLD-TV in Chicago and KCRA-TV in Sacramento. His tenure at WNBC-TV in New York included co-anchoring ‘Today in New York’ and hosting programs like ‘Four Stories’ and ‘Mind Over Media.’
In 2004, he joined WCBS-TV as the 6 pm anchor for ‘CBS 2 News at 6’ alongside Dana Tyler. Over the years, he continued to co-anchor various newscasts, including ‘CBS 2 News This Morning’ and ‘CBS 2 News at Noon.’ DuBois also took on co-anchoring roles for ‘CBS 2 News at 5’ and ‘CBS 2 News at 11’ starting in 2011. His reporting has covered major events such as national political conventions and significant international stories like the AIDS crisis in South Africa.
Deeply involved in community service, DuBois holds board positions with several organizations, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure (New York City affiliate) and New York City Center. He is also associated with WNET’s GED program.
DuBois and his wife, Andrea Adair, married in 2001 and are proud parents of two sons, residing in Harlem. He has received multiple Emmy Awards, accolades from the Associated Press, and a Trailblazer Award from the National Association of Black Journalists in New York City. He is also honored with honorary Doctor of Philosophy degrees from several institutions.
CBS executives have announced plans to uphold the show’s journalistic integrity. Bill Owens, executive producer of ’60 Minutes,’ will guide the editorial direction of ‘Evening News,’ with Guy Campanile serving as executive producer. Wendy McMahon, chief executive of CBS News, emphasized the new leadership’s goal of infusing ‘60 Minutes’ values into the nightly broadcast.
