WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has achieved a remarkable $200 million in fundraising since she solidified her position as the leading Democratic presidential nominee last week, an impressive milestone as she prepares for her matchup against Republican nominee Donald Trump.
The campaign disclosed this significant fundraising total over the weekend, highlighting that a substantial 66% of contributions came from first-time donors in the 2024 election cycle, catalyzed after President Joe Biden’s endorsement of Harris following his departure from the race.
The Harris campaign has also mobilized over 170,000 volunteers to assist with phone banking, canvassing, and other voter outreach initiatives as Election Day approaches in just 100 days.
“The momentum and energy for Vice President Harris are palpable, and the dynamics of this race indicate it will be closely contested and determined by a small number of voters in key states,” stated the campaign’s communications director in a memo.
During a fundraising event in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Harris garnered significant attention, attracting hundreds of supporters to a gathering that was initially planned while Biden still led the Democratic ticket. The fundraiser, which aimed to collect $400,000, ultimately raised approximately $1.4 million.
Following Biden’s exit from the race after a challenging debate performance, Harris quickly consolidated support from numerous prominent Democrats, including leaders like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Endorsements also flowed in from influential figures such as former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, who announced their support on Friday.
At the recent fundraiser, Harris described herself as the “underdog” in the race, yet emphasized that her campaign is gaining momentum.
Future Forward, the largest super PAC supporting Democrats, revealed last week it secured $150 million in commitments from donors within the first 24 hours following Biden’s exit and endorsement of Harris.
Democratic candidates for House and Senate report a notable increase in support since Harris emerged as the party’s likely nominee.
