ECNETNews Exclusive: Investigation Launched into Fatal Shooting by Parole Officer on Christmas Eve
Fresno, California – The California Justice Department is probing the tragic death of a man shot by his parole officer on Christmas Eve. This incident unfolded in the early afternoon, as officials confirmed on Friday.
The victim, identified as Jeremy Sanchez, 26, was reportedly engaged in a home visit with the parole officer when a "physical altercation" escalated. According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the officer discharged his weapon during the incident, resulting in Sanchez being struck. Despite attempts to administer lifesaving measures, Sanchez succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Local law enforcement responded promptly after multiple gunshots were reported in the vicinity. The involved parole officer, who has approximately 13 years of experience in the field, remains unnamed as authorities withhold further details.
Court records indicate that Sanchez had a criminal history, including convictions for domestic violence and resisting an officer, as well as an ongoing misdemeanor vandalism case.
In accordance with state law, the Justice Department is mandated to investigate all officer-involved shootings resulting in the death of an unarmed civilian. The CDCR’s Deadly Force Review Board will also conduct its own evaluation following the criminal and administrative investigations.
