Calcutta High Court Ensures Peaceful Saraswati Puja Celebrations at Jogesh Chandra Law College
In a decisive move to promote peaceful student-led celebrations, the Calcutta High Court has mandated police security for the upcoming Saraswati Puja at Jogesh Chandra Law College in Kolkata. Justice Joy Sengupta has appointed a Joint Commissioner-level officer to oversee the arrangements and maintain law and order during the festivities.
The court’s ruling stipulates that separate pujas will be conducted for both the Day College and Law College divisions. Additionally, college authorities are required to document the entire celebration via video recording.
To further ensure security, police have been directed to prevent entry to individuals with pending complaints, restricting participation solely to students from the two departments.
In another significant directive, the court ordered the Charu Market Police Station to dismantle an illegal puja pandal situated within the Day College area by noon and to officially document the process.
The ruling comes in response to concerns raised by law college students, who reported that outsiders were attempting to dominate their Saraswati Puja arrangements, thus hindering their ability to organize the event.
The next court hearing on this matter is set for February 5 at 2 pm.
