The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is leaving fans in suspense following its decision delay regarding the disputed AFCON qualifying match between Libya and Nigeria, originally scheduled for October 15 at the Benina Martyrs Stadium.
Reports indicate that CAF’s Disciplinary Committee held a video conference on Wednesday to hear explanations from both Libya and Nigeria, but no verdict has been reached. The incident escalated when Nigeria’s national team departed Libya in protest due to a flight diversion to Labraq Airport, where they were reportedly detained for 18 hours without access to food or water.
According to the Nigerian team, they requested CAF’s intervention to assist with their situation at Labraq Airport. CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, has confirmed that the incident is under investigation, emphasizing a review of the regulations for accommodating visiting teams. He assured that strict measures will be taken to address this issue, reaffirming that any breach of protocol will not be tolerated.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as CAF works towards a resolution.
