Barbuda’s newly opened Burton Nibbs International Airport has successfully welcomed 99 flights within its first two months of operation, demonstrating a robust demand for air travel to the island. November marked a peak with a total of 54 flights recorded during the month.
Officially inaugurated on October 3, 2024, the airport saw an impressive 45 flights in its debut month.
The facility features a 6,100-foot runway, designed to accommodate a diverse range of aircraft, including the LIAT ERJ 145, ATR 46, ERJ 175, and the larger Embraer E 170, making it a versatile hub for both commercial and private aviation.
The encouraging flight numbers highlight significant interest among travelers and suggest that Barbuda is becoming an increasingly popular destination.
Additionally, the airport has experienced a notable increase in private jet arrivals, attributed to the top-notch amenities provided at Burton Nibbs International Airport.
The launch of Barbuda International Airport marks a significant achievement as the only new international airport to open in the Caribbean in the past decade, positioning Barbuda as the smallest island in the region to offer such vital transit options.
This development not only enhances travel convenience across the Caribbean but is also anticipated to generate numerous job opportunities, stimulating the local economy.
The airport has already created various employment roles, including immigration and customs officers, airport operators, and other staff, with more positions expected to arise in the future.
Since opening, staffing levels have nearly doubled, with increased roles for aviation security, immigration, customs, and custodial staff, all essential for ensuring a seamless and secure experience for visitors and residents alike.
