Britney Spears is set to have her life story immortalized on the big screen as her memoir, The Woman in Me, is officially being adapted into a feature film by Universal Pictures. The project will be directed by Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Wicked, and produced by Marc Platt, famed for La La Land. Spears expressed her excitement about this new venture, stating, “I’ve been working on a secret project with Marc Platt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.”
The announcement comes after the termination of Spears’ conservatorship in November 2021, which followed a highly publicized legal battle. Since regaining her freedom, she released the best-selling The Woman in Me, which details her life experiences and struggles during the conservatorship, alongside an audiobook narrated by an acclaimed actor. Additionally, Spears has collaborated on two songs: “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John and “Mind Your Business” featuring Will.i.am, marking her return to the music scene since her last album, 2016’s Glory.
The upcoming film adaptation is anticipated to draw significant attention, reflecting the ongoing interest in Britney Spears’ journey and the impact of her conservatorship on her career.
