Brentford has reached a preliminary agreement with Liverpool to acquire defender Sepp van den Berg. The west London club is reportedly set to pay £25 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons for the centre-back.
Van den Berg joined Liverpool from Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle in 2019, signing for £4.4 million and making four appearances for the senior team. The final decision now rests with the player, who is also aware of interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
The German club is prepared to enter negotiations with Liverpool but needs to offload one of their current centre-backs first. They have received interest for players including Edmond Tapsoba, Jonathan Tah, and Odilon Kossounou.
In related news, 21-year-old attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho has completed his transfer from Liverpool to Brentford this summer.
Additionally, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is reportedly training well and is in contention to feature in their upcoming home game against Brentford. Gomez was absent from the matchday squad during Liverpool’s opening victory against Ipswich, amid speculation regarding his future at the club. Aston Villa is believed to be one of several clubs interested in the 27-year-old as they seek potential replacements for Diego Carlos, who has attracted attention from Fulham.
