The Rivers State Government has announced that it has not yet received any official documentation regarding the resolution led by the House of Assembly, following the Supreme Court’s ruling last Friday.
In a recent communication, the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, requested that Governor Siminalayi Fubara present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the assembly within 48 hours, as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution.
However, on Wednesday, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, clarified that the governor has not seen the letter, stating that the government only learned of it through social media channels.
Dr. Danagogo’s statement emphasized, “We came across a letter dated March 3, 2025, regarding this matter and wish to inform you that as of the close of business on March 4, 2025, we have not received the mentioned letter. No correspondence has been received by the Governor’s office, the Deputy Governor’s office, or the Accountant-General’s office.”
Furthermore, Dr. Danagogo noted that the government has yet to obtain a copy of the Supreme Court judgment necessary to issue a formal response.
“We remain in contact with our legal team, who are still awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court’s judgment. I assure the citizens of Rivers State that once His Excellency receives the judgment, he will act promptly in the best interest of our people,” he stated.
Dr. Danagogo reassured the public of the governor’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, a stance he reiterated in a recent address to the state.
“Please remember that on March 2, 2025, during a state broadcast, His Excellency, Siminalayi Fubara, clearly indicated that regardless of his personal views on the Supreme Court judgments, he is committed to obeying and implementing their decisions in adherence to the rule of law and for the benefit of the people of Rivers State.”
