Bolton Wanderers striker Victor Adeboyejo was sidelined during the team’s recent EFL Trophy triumph over Barrow due to an unusual injury reportedly caused by a “hefty sneeze.”
Adeboyejo experienced discomfort in his back and ribcage, leading to his withdrawal from the match. Manager Ian Evatt revealed that the injury was exacerbated by the sneeze.
“Victor has been dealing with a troublesome back injury, and believe it or not, a sneeze set it off,” Evatt stated.
The 26-year-old Nigerian is undergoing scans to determine the severity of his condition. Evatt expressed optimism, indicating that they hope it is merely a cartilage or muscular issue.
“He felt a crack between his ribs, but we won’t know for certain until we analyze the scan results,” he added.
The injury traces back to a challenge in a previous match against Charlton but was aggravated by the sneeze. “He was fine initially, but then he had a pretty hefty sneeze. Victor is a powerful player, and even his sneezes are strong,” Evatt joked, highlighting the unexpected nature of the incident.
Despite Adeboyejo’s absence, Bolton clinched a 3-2 victory against Barrow, currently placing 18th in League One with four points from their first four matches of the season.
Adeboyejo joined the League One team on January 27, 2023.
