Jair Bolsonaro strategically navigated the MDB convention that formally endorsed Ricardo Nunes for re-election on Saturday (3) in São Paulo.
Under an order from Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the STF, the former president was prohibited from interacting with Valdemar Costa Neto, as both are under investigation by the Federal Police for their alleged involvement in a coup attempt.
The president of PL stepped down from the stage to observe Bolsonaro’s speech from the crowd, ensuring they remained separated to adhere to the legal restrictions.
On stage, the ex-president also avoided contact with Gilberto Kassab, president of the PSD party. Bolsonaro’s allies indicate that he is more agitated than ever and is pressuring Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) to distance himself from the Secretary of Government ahead of the 2026 re-election campaign.
Bolsonaro holds Kassab responsible for the actions of PSD senators in various CPIs that have targeted him. He specifically criticizes senators Otto Alencar (BA) and Omar Aziz (AM) in the Covid CPI and senator Eliziane Gama (MA) in relation to the events of January 8.
In February, he shared a message via WhatsApp denouncing Kassab, labeling the PSD president as a “fraud” and a “ventriloquist for the corruption of the left.”
