NEW YORK — An outdoor holiday market in Bryant Park, New York City, experienced a brief fire Friday morning, sending flames and smoke into the air as firefighters quickly responded to the scene.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the fire, which ignited just after 9 a.m. According to fire department officials, at least four stalls were damaged, and the roof of a nearby ice skating rink suffered damage as well.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, although some of the affected stalls were known to be serving food.
Images from the incident revealed numerous firefighters surrounding the charred remains of the wooden stalls. The popular open-air market, featuring hundreds of food and merchandise vendors, attracts large crowds of holiday tourists to the park, nestled between Times Square and Grand Central Terminal.
This incident occurs less than two weeks following another fire at a midtown Manhattan holiday market in Herald Square, which resulted in the destruction of eighteen stalls due to an electrical issue.
