In a significant political shift, the BJP celebrated a landmark victory in Delhi after 27 years, prompting BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari to project West Bengal as the next target for the party. Adhikari’s declaration signals a strategic move as the BJP aims to challenge the Trinamool Congress, currently led by Mamata Banerjee, who has been in power since 2011.
“Dilli ki jeet hamari hai. 2026 mein Bengal ki baari hai (This is our victory in Delhi. It is Bengal’s turn in 2026),” Adhikari asserted during a press briefing.
With the BJP as the opposition party in West Bengal, Adhikari’s comments described the potential to end Banerjee’s long-standing rule. He further criticized the AAP, claiming it marked the conclusion of a disastrous phase in Delhi governance and emphasized that Bengali voters significantly supported the BJP.
‘AAP-da ki vidaai ho gayi hai’ (The disaster has ended). The electorate has given a clear message to AAP. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Delhi can regain its former glory,” he stated, alluding to the deteriorating infrastructure in the capital.
As the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Adhikari extended his congratulations to PM Modi for the overwhelming win in Delhi, calling it a decisive mandate against AAP’s governance.
Expressing his sentiments on social media, he stated, “Huge victory for BJP in Delhi. Congratulations to the Prime Minister for leading this significant triumph over AAP. The people will now benefit from a double engine government.” He also expressed gratitude to the Bengali community in Delhi for their support.
BJP GAINING MOMENTUM IN WEST BENGAL POST DELHI VICTORY
Echoing Adhikari’s sentiments, Siliguri BJP chief Arun Mandal noted that the overwhelming support from Bengalis in Delhi could foreshadow similar backing in the upcoming West Bengal elections. “In 2026, families of Bengali voters in Delhi will support BJP as well, rallying against the corruption of the Trinamool Congress,” he remarked.
Sukanta Majumdar, West Bengal BJP president and Union Minister, indicated that the election results in Delhi reflect public confidence in development and will inspire party members ahead of next year’s assembly elections. “The voters in Bengal will reject the Trinamool Congress in the upcoming assembly polls,” he asserted.
In a decisive electoral performance, the BJP secured 48 out of 70 Assembly seats in Delhi, significantly diminishing AAP’s presence to just 22, while Congress failed to win any constituencies. Prominent AAP leaders faced losses in their respective areas, with only outgoing Chief Minister Atishi managing to retain her seat.
This victory represents a considerable advancement for the BJP, which struggled in previous elections.
TRINAMOOL CONGRESS REMAINS MUM ON DELHI RESULTS
In contrast, the Trinamool Congress, which had actively campaigned for AAP, opted for silence regarding the defeat. However, a senior party member acknowledged the loss as a setback for the opposition coalition.
“BJP’s success in Delhi is not favorable for the anti-BJP alliance. We need to analyze the factors that led to AAP’s loss,” the leader remarked.
This electoral outcome unfolds amidst ongoing tensions between AAP and Congress, both part of the INDIA bloc, as they navigate a consensus against the BJP.
