The BJP is asserting its role in the Cauvery V Stage drinking water scheme launched recently, emphasizing that the project was initiated by the previous BJP administration in 2019.
According to R. Ashok, the Leader of the Opposition, “The BJP government led by B.S. Yediyurappa secured a ₹5,500 crore loan for the project, with implementation commencing on January 1, 2019. The subsequent Basavaraj Bommai government also prioritized the project, successfully completing approximately 80% of it.”
Mr. Ashok accused the Congress government of bias against Bengaluru regarding the allocation of development funds. He called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to disclose the funding statistics concerning allocations from the Congress administration, the prior BJP government, and the Central government for the city’s development.
He highlighted that ₹8,000 crore was allocated by the former Basavaraj Bommai-led government for road development in Bengaluru, in addition to ₹1,600 crore for storm-water drain construction. Ashok alleged that the Congress administration not only retracted these funds but also failed to initiate any new allocations for Bengaluru’s development.
He urged the current government to either retract the “Brand Bengaluru” initiative or release funds along with a comprehensive development plan for the city.
