The BJP’s remarkable victory in the Haryana Assembly election, which defied exit poll predictions favoring the Congress, stands as a strong testament to the people’s trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to B.Y. Vijayendra, the president of the BJP’s Karnataka unit. Speaking in Bengaluru, he emphasized the party’s focus on highlighting the Congress government’s failure in Karnataka to properly implement guarantee schemes and its involvement in alleged corruption.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, also the KPCC president, acknowledged the electoral outcome, calling it a significant lesson for the Congress party.
Vijayendra stated, “During the campaign, BJP leaders articulated how the Congress government, claiming to represent minorities, OBCs, and Dalits, misused welfare funds, leading to injustice. The people of Haryana have decisively endorsed the BJP’s development agenda, rejecting the Congress’s anti-development stance.” He also extended congratulations to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for supporting the BJP as the second-largest party in the State.
H.D. Kumaraswamy, a leader of the BJP’s alliance partner JD(S) and Union Minister, praised the party’s electoral performance and reaffirmed Modi’s position as a dependable leader.
‘Evaluation of Leadership Required’
Shivakumar further stated, “This verdict is a critical lesson for us. Our senior leaders will assess the shortcomings. Caution is essential as we move forward.”
He added, “The people’s decision is final. While I was skeptical of the exit polls, I was hopeful for our success, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. The results in Haryana are disappointing, particularly given the region’s large farming community. Nonetheless, we must respect the voters’ decision.”
On comments from senior Congress leader K.B. Koliwad linking the party’s loss to Modi’s campaign focus on alleged irregularities, he remarked, “There’s no need to dwell on MUDA. There is no connection between MUDA and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Investigations are ongoing.”
