In a recent turn of events, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced an unexpected setback when their office in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, was locked by the landlord due to unpaid rent and outstanding electricity bills.
The party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, operates its Madhya Pradesh unit from a rented facility in Subhash Nagar. The landlord, Dilip, confirmed that AAP had not fulfilled its rental obligations for the past three months, citing pending electricity payments as well.
“After numerous reminders for payment, I had no choice but to secure the office,” Dilip stated.
Interestingly, two locks now adorn the office gate: one placed by the landlord and the other by AAP officials. Dilip assured that he would remove his lock once the overdue rent was settled.
Meanwhile, AAP representatives suggested that the landlord’s decision might stem from a misunderstanding. Madhya Pradesh AAP president Rani Agarwal explained, “Our office-in-charge was attending a wedding, leaving some important documents secured inside. He locked the office upon his departure.” She expressed confidence that the situation would be resolved promptly, stating, “The office lock will be released by Saturday evening.”
