On September 7, 2024, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh emphasized the significance of the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra, which journeyed from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, describing it as a “massive booster dose” for the party and a pivotal moment for the nation’s political landscape.
Marking the second anniversary of this transformative yatra, Ramesh noted that over 200 Bharat Yatris, under Gandhi’s leadership, completed an extensive 4,000 km trek across 12 states and 2 Union Territories in 145 days, primarily on foot. He stated, “This yatra fostered unprecedented connectivity and collectivity, signaling a crucial shift in Indian politics.”
The initiative also laid the groundwork for the upcoming Manipur to Mumbai Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra scheduled for January to March 2024, Ramesh added.
Rahul Gandhi launched the yatra on September 7, 2022, culminating on January 30, 2023, in Srinagar after an ambitious 145-day journey. Throughout this period, Gandhi engaged with the public through 12 major addresses, over 100 street corner meetings, and numerous press conferences, accumulating over 275 planned walking interactions and more than 100 sitting discussions.
The march attracted wide attention, engaging a diverse array of participants, including prominent film and television figures, alongside renowned writers and military veterans. Opposition leaders like Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Aaditya Thackeray were also seen walking alongside Gandhi at various stages of the march, showcasing a united front against divisive politics.
This significant event has not only galvanized support for the Congress party but is also seen as a catalyst for change in the broader political dynamics of India.
