Director Andy Muschietti has announced that the highly anticipated DCU film The Brave and the Bold is currently facing a postponement.
Back in January 2023, the announcement was made that a film featuring the iconic character Batman would be included in the new DC Universe continuity created by Peter Safran and James Gunn.
Gunn described The Brave and the Bold as a story centering on Batman and his son, Damian Wayne, based on Grant Morrison’s acclaimed comic series. “Damian Wayne is my favorite Robin,” Gunn stated, emphasizing the complex relationship between Batman and his son as they navigate the formation of the Bat-Family in the DCU.
In June 2023, it was confirmed that Muschietti, renowned for directing The Flash, would take the helm of The Brave and the Bold.
However, since then, there has been little development on the film. In November 2024, Gunn noted there was “no set timeline for anything,” indicating that the project would not proceed until a satisfactory script is developed.
Latest Update on The Brave and the Bold
In a recent discussion, Muschietti shed light on the film’s status, confirming that The Brave and the Bold is on hold. Additionally, he mentioned the possibility of pursuing a different project before returning to the Batman story.
“I’m now writing a science fiction movie that I would like to do,” Muschietti explained. “Batman is a project that’s been postponed a bit. So there could be another film before it, possibly that one.”
This news comes amid reports that the sequel to The Batman directed by Matt Reeves has also been delayed, moving its release date from October 2026 to October 2027.
While Gunn has previously considered integrating Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman into the DCU, there has been no official confirmation regarding this development. It appears that both The Batman Part II and The Brave and the Bold will continue with their respective storylines in separate universes, as initially planned.
