Rangers Head Coach Barry Ferguson Praises Team’s Resilience in 4-2 Victory
Rangers’ new head coach Barry Ferguson expressed his pride in the team’s “heart and desire” during a thrilling comeback victory at Rugby Park, where they defeated Kilmarnock 4-2. Ferguson, who has a distinguished past as a former captain at Ibrox, achieved this victory just 48 hours after taking the managerial reins from Philippe Clement.
Ferguson is now urging his players to maintain the same level of determination exhibited during the comeback for the remainder of the season after they found themselves trailing due to goals from Joe Wright and Brad Lyons.
“I’m not going to get over-excited,” Ferguson stated post-match. “There are many areas for improvement, and the players are aware. They have been under scrutiny, yet they displayed heart and desire tonight.”
The 47-year-old emphasized his commitment to extract the best from his team as he acknowledged their potential. “I wouldn’t have taken the job if I didn’t believe in their abilities. They showcased a different side to themselves during the match.”
He cautioned, however, that consistency is key as Rangers prepare for their upcoming home game. “They need to learn to handle the pressure from the crowd, especially if things aren’t going their way early in the game.”
Reflecting on tactical decisions, Ferguson made a significant change by substituting Clinton Nsiala after a challenging first 30 minutes. “You must make tough decisions when the situation demands it,” Ferguson remarked. “Clinton is young and will bounce back, but we needed to change things up to regain control.”
Looking ahead, Rangers have a tough schedule, including crucial matches against Motherwell, Fenerbahce in the Europa League, and a significant clash with Celtic.
The team’s recent performance has sparked optimism among fans, but analysts emphasize that sustaining this momentum will be essential for Ferguson’s Rangers as they navigate the challenges of the remainder of the season.
