NEW YORK — A delightful new addition is making waves at the Bronx Zoo.
The zoo has announced the arrival of a male baby silvered langur, delighting visitors during the winter season with his vibrant orange hue. This captivating little one, part of a larger group of adult silvered langurs, is turning heads as he showcases his playful antics. Silvered langurs are born with striking orange coats, which transition to gray as they mature over the next three to five months.
Scientifically known as Trachypithecus cristatus, this species hails from the lush forests of Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies silvered langurs as “vulnerable,” highlighting the need for conservation efforts to protect these unique primates.
The playful infant was born in November and adds to the zoo’s successful breeding program, which has seen over 100 of these leaf-eating monkeys thrive over the past 40 years.
Visitors are treated to heartwarming scenes of the baby snuggling with adults, climbing, and exploring his surroundings. His tangerine-colored fur creates a charming contrast against the adults’ gray coats, making for delightful viewing.
As of now, the baby has yet to be named, but he can be spotted at the zoo’s popular JungleWorld exhibit.
