Jharkhand BJP president Babulal Marandi expressed on August 19, 2024, that there have been no discussions regarding Champai Soren potentially joining the BJP. Marandi emphasized that Soren is a seasoned politician who will determine his own course of action.
Speculation surrounding Soren’s potential move to the BJP arose after his arrival in Delhi on August 18, 2024.
In a revealing social media post, Champai Soren shared that he experienced “bitter humiliation” during his time as chief minister, prompting him to explore alternative paths.
Marandi reiterated, “No talk was held yet with Champai Soren. He is a seasoned politician and has been part of the separate Jharkhand movement. He will decide his own future.” He noted that Soren’s statements indicate a deep sense of hurt and humiliation regarding his removal from the chief minister’s position.
Soren specifically highlighted that he was asked to resign during a meeting of party legislators on July 3, which greatly impacted his self-respect. He declared, “A new chapter in my life is going to begin from today” after the meeting.
The former chief minister revealed three options moving forward: retiring from politics, forming a separate party, or aligning with another group if possible. “All options are open for me on this journey, especially as the Jharkhand Assembly elections approach,” Soren stated.
Addressing Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s accusations against the BJP regarding alleged MLA poaching, Marandi questioned the integrity of Hemant’s claims, stating, “If he calls his MLAs ‘Bikao’, who would want to stay with him? If any MLA expresses dissatisfaction, he should listen.” Hemant Soren accused the BJP of attempting to undermine his party by luring away lawmakers.
Furthermore, Marandi acknowledged the potential impacts on the party should a senior figure like Champai Soren decide to leave. Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shadeo affirmed that should Soren express a desire to join the BJP, the matter would be addressed by party leadership, recognizing Soren’s significant leadership role and efforts to reshape the public perception of Hemant Soren’s administration.
Meanwhile, JMM senior leader and minister Mithilesh Thakur assured that Soren remains a valued member of the party and any grievances will be addressed internally, stating, “JMM is a family, and we will resolve any issues together.”
