Ruth, who was famously traded from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees in 1920, donned the Yankees jersey during Game Three of the 1932 World Series against the Chicago Cubs. During this iconic match, he infamously “called his shot” by pointing toward center field before hitting a memorable home run off Cubs pitcher Charlie Root.
The Yankees clinched the series with a thrilling 7-5 victory, marking Ruth’s final home run in a World Series. Renowned as one of the greatest baseball players in history, Ruth celebrated seven World Series championships throughout his illustrious career. He hung up his cleats in 1935 and passed away in 1948 at the age of 53.
