Authorities are currently searching for a suspect who made off with jewellery valued at approximately 5 million baht from a gold shop within a shopping mall in Pathum Thani province on Monday.
The heist occurred at the Aurora gold shop, located on the second floor of the Big C superstore in Lam Luk Ka district, just minutes before noon, according to police reports.
The robber is estimated to have stolen over 100 baht-weight of gold necklaces, totaling slightly more than 5 million baht.
Investigators have recovered fingerprints at the scene that they believe will aid in identifying the suspect. Security footage reveals that while the robber was disguised, he was not wearing gloves.
At the time of the incident, two female employees were present, but there were no customers in the store.
One of the employees described the robber as a man about 160 centimetres tall, dressed in a blue long-sleeved shirt, jeans, black-and-white sneakers, a round hat, and a face mask.
According to the employee, the suspect ordered them to sit down before he gathered the gold necklaces from the displays and exited the store.
Video footage shows the robber calmly collecting the necklaces and leaving the mall on a motorcycle.
The employees chose not to confront the robber, a decision that law enforcement supports as wise under the circumstances.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
