The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has successfully apprehended four suspects and seized 72 bags of cannabis sativa, weighing over 2,880 kilograms. This operation was handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Marine Command.
This significant seizure occurred on August 25, thanks to the vigilance of the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, following reliable intelligence on suspicious activities around Lekki Beach.
The arrested individuals include three Ghanaians and one Beninoi, highlighting the international complexities of drug trafficking in the region.
Commodore Rafiu Taye Oladejo, Commanding Officer of NNS BEECROFT, stated that the operation aligns with the strategic directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining a secure maritime environment.
“The operation was initiated in response to actionable intelligence regarding criminal activities in the Lekki Beach area. Our Quick Response Team deployed for an intensive patrol and search, resulting in the significant interception and arrest of those involved,” Oladejo explained.
He further noted that this operation underscores the Navy’s ongoing efforts to combat the spread of illicit drugs, which pose serious health risks to the youth and threaten national security.
As a caution to those engaged in drug trafficking, NNS BEECROFT reaffirmed its dedication to pursuing all criminal elements in its operational area.
