NEW ORLEANS — Authorities are investigating a second social media post featuring a man identifying himself as Antoine Massey, a fugitive who escaped from a New Orleans jail over two weeks ago.
The recent post indicates a man standing by a blue car claiming to be “#AntoineMassey,” mirroring his distinctive facial tattoos.
While the exact time and location of the image are unclear, officials are treating it as credible, according to a senior law enforcement source who requested anonymity due to the active investigation into the May 16 escape of ten inmates.
The escape involved tampering with a faulty cell door, crawling through a hole behind a toilet, and scaling a barbed wire fence using blankets, marking it as one of the largest jailbreaks in recent U.S. history.
Local and state officials have criticized the management of Orleans Parish Sheriff, pointing to poor infrastructure as a reason for the jailbreak. The facility, which cost $150 million, is just ten years old.
While eight inmates have been captured, Massey and another fugitive, convicted murderer Derrick Groves, remain at large.
In the post, Massey claims innocence, despite facing serious charges including kidnapping, rape, and motor vehicle theft.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Fair encourages Massey to surrender and utilize appropriate legal channels for his defense, emphasizing uncertainty regarding the origin and timing of the post.
Earlier reports indicated other videos made by Massey prompted an investigation at a nearby residence, although authorities only found some of his clothing during the search.
Louisiana Governor has publicly urged both Massey and Groves to cease their evasion and turn themselves in.
